Carisa Armstrong is the recipient of the 2025 Scholar Award for the National Dance Society. This award recognizes dance educators who have been and are producing scholarly/creative works of significance at the community, state, regional, national, or international levels in dance research, evaluation, professional writing, choreography, or other dance works. Carisa Armstrong is an Associate Professor and Program Director for Dance in the College of Performance, Visualization, and Fine Arts at Texas A&M University. She has been heavily involved in developing the Dance Science Program and the new MFA in Dance, which opens in summer 2025. Ms. Armstrong also serves as a mentor for undergraduate researchers in dance science. These students are part of the LAUNCH program at Texas A&M University and often present their research at conferences nationally/internationally. Ms. Armstrong’s research is split between dance science and her creative scholarly activities. She has presented her research and choreography internationally/nationally at conferences/festivals such as the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science, the Performing Arts Medicine Association, the National Dance Society, Asheville Fringe, Performatica, NYC Fringe, and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
