Ms. Teresa Osborn received the Dance Promotion in the Community Award!

Born in England, Ms. Teresa Osborn received her early education and dance training there. She taught, lectured, adjudicated competitions, and organized dance holidays at the Spencer Dance Center: Disco-Jazz, Rock ‘n’ Roll, Country Western, Latin, Ballroom, and Freestyle. She is a Fellow of the Imperial Society of Teachers Dancing in the United Kingdom (UK). In Hong Kong, Ms. Osborn owned the Teresa Wood Dance Studio, coached Cotillion, choreographed shows, and organized festivals/balls. In Norwood, MA (USA), she managed a Fred Astaire Dance Studio. Ms. Osborn is a licensed Zumba® instructor for several programs and is certified by the AFAA. For ten years, she has taught Zumba® classes at the Redmond [WA] Parks & Recreation Center, where she also organized the largest annual “Thrill the World” fund-raising event. Ms. Osborn currently is the health and wellness supervisor at the YMCA, Sammamish, WA (where she supervisors 24 instructors of dance/fitness programs across the ages). For years, Ms. Osborn has been a leader in SHAPE America (formerly AAHPERD) and conducted scores of workshops at conferences and in schools systems across the country. She served as dance vice-president for Massachusetts Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (MAHPERD) and eastern district; SHAPE America program reviewer, chair of the dance teacher award committee, and member of the Nominations Committee. Ms. Osborn has published dance units to help elementary, middle, and high school physical educators teach dance. In 2016, she authored books on Motown and Disco for School Teachers. The National Dance Association recognized her works in 2012 (Plaudit Award) and 2013 (Presidential Citation for Outstanding Service). NDS is pleased to announce Teresa Osborn’s selection as the 2019 Dance Promotion in the Community Award recipient.
