Ms. Judy Marks Clark received the Dance Honor Award!
After 30+ years in public education, Judy Clark is currently a self-employed consultant. She earned her BS degree in health and physical education from Madison College, where she got her start in dance through the Modern Dance Ensemble and the Folk Dance Ensemble. She earned both the MS degree in physical education and a Post Master’s Certificate in principalship from Virginia Commonwealth University. She studied dance and related art at the Texas Woman’s University. Judy is a lifetime member of the Virginia Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (VAHPERD), was a member of the National Dance Association (NDA) for 44 years, and a national AAHPERD member from 1970 to 2016. As a state leader, she held the office of president of VAHPERD (2004-2006), as well as a five-year term as vice president of the Dance Division. She served on numerous state committees, including co-chair of the Virginia Children’s Dance Festival for nearly a decade. She was a Jump Rope for Heart coordinator for twenty years. Judy’s contributions over the years to Southern District AAHPERD included serving on several committees and on the Board as Vice President of the Dance Division. Judy served on committees at the national level with NDA where she also served a two-year term as the Spotlight (newsletter) editor and Spotlight consulting editor (2003-2005; 2005-2007 respectively) and was a member of the State Relations Committee. As a member of the National Dance Society (NDS), she initiated the NDS awards program and served as Chair of the Awards Committee for four years. She presented numerous times at the VAHPERD and Southern District AAHPERD conventions and at NDS conferences. Judy has written curriculum in health, dance, and physical education, including two state dance curriculum publications. Her awards from VAHPERD include the President’s Plaque, Dance Educator of the Year, Service Award, and Pioneer Award. Southern District awarded her the Honor Award and Service Award. At the national level, Judy is a recipient of the NDA Presidential Citation and the NDS Presidential Citation.
