Dr. Fran Anthony Meyer
2022 National Dance Society Legacy Award
Dr. Meyer is a person of many passions and is a life-long learner with several areas of interest. As a scholar, teacher, and leader, she has designed leadership programs for professionals in dance, health, and physical education focusing on pre-k through grade 12, including those with special needs. During her decades of professional work in dance education, her breadth of knowledge, experience, and leadership have been evident in her positions as teacher, performer, administrator, artistic director, conference planner, festival director, standards and curriculum writer, journal and other publications editor, staff development specialist, research project director, associations board member, and president of a state and southern region, and three national organizations. Dr. Meyer is a worthy recipient of the NDS highest award for exemplary, lifetime contributions of national and international significance to dance, dance education, and the arts, as she works tirelessly to promote dance as an academic subject and an art form. Dr. Meyer’s belief that dance belongs to all, regardless of age, cultural background, or socio-economic status epitomizes her lifelong work with diverse populations, making a positive difference in the lives of children, adolescents, and adults.
