Tarin Hampton is the 2025 Legacy Award recipient. This is the National Dance Society’s (NDS) highest award for exemplary, lifetime contributions of national or international significance to dance, dance education, the arts, and NDS. Dr. Hampton is a retired Department Chair/Full Professor from Norfolk State University, Department of Health, Physical Education, and Exercise Science. She is still teaching as an adjunct professor at Norfolk State University. Dr. Hampton was part of the first cohort to complete the National Dance Society (NDS) Leadership Academy Fellow. She was elected President-Elect for NDS in 2020. Dr. Hampton’s teaching career is full of many achievements these are just a few: chosen to start the Dance Major at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana West Africa; chosen to be the Department Chair at Norfolk State University; was invited to teach, present and perform at international workshops and conferences including, but not limited to Belgium, Hungary, Ghana, West Africa, Trinidad and Tobago, and Bahrain. Dr. Hampton’s contributions to dance and dance education have made a global impact.
